As we approach February 6, 2025, we at the Just for Women Centre in Stanley are gearing up to participate in Time to Talk Day, a national movement dedicated to encouraging open conversations about mental health. This day is vital in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health issues and fostering a culture of openness and support.

Why Time to Talk Day is Important
Mental health affects everyone, whether directly or through a friend, family member, or colleague. Time to Talk Day provides a platform for individuals to share their experiences and listen to others, promoting understanding and empathy. By participating in this day, we contribute to creating a world where mental health is discussed as openly as physical health, making it easier for those struggling to seek the help they need.
Tips on How to Talk to Others and Spot the Signs
- Listen Actively: When someone opens up to you about their mental health, listen without judgment. Show empathy and understanding, and avoid interrupting or offering unsolicited advice.
- Be Open: Share your own experiences if you’re comfortable. This can help normalize the conversation and show that it’s okay to talk about mental health.
- Ask Open-Ended Questions: Encourage the person to share more by asking questions like, “How have you been feeling lately?” or “Can you tell me more about what’s been going on?”
- Spot the Signs: Look for changes in behavior, such as withdrawal from social activities, changes in eating or sleeping patterns, or increased irritability. These can be indicators that someone is struggling with their mental health.
How the Just for Women Centre Provides Services Around Mental Health and Workshops
At the Just for Women Centre, we are committed to supporting women in their mental health journeys. Our services are designed to provide a safe and welcoming environment where women can access the help they need. Here are some of the ways we assist:
- Counseling: Our trained counselors offer one-on-one sessions to help women navigate their mental health challenges. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, or other issues, we’re here to listen and support you.
- Creative Therapy: We provide art and craft therapy sessions that allow women to express themselves creatively. Engaging in creative activities can be a powerful way to process emotions and relieve stress.
- Support Groups: Our support groups offer a space for women to share their experiences and connect with others who understand what they’re going through. These groups are a source of comfort, encouragement, and advice.
- Workshops: We host various workshops on topics such as stress management, self-care, and mindfulness. These workshops equip women with practical tools and techniques to improve their mental well-being.
By participating in Time to Talk Day, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives of women in our community. Remember, talking about mental health doesn’t have to be daunting. Sometimes, a simple conversation can make all the difference.
Let’s come together this Time to Talk Day and make mental health a priority. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to us at the Just for Women Centre. We’re here to help.
