Police officers, schoolchildren, charities, and businesses helped to raise money for the Stanley Community Fund on Friday 30th April 2021. Stand Out for Stanley was a community fundraising project to get Stanley on the map and celebrate the achievements of recent years.
Just For Women Centre got involved in the project raising awareness of our services supporting women, men and children to move beyond the constraints of mental health, poverty, abuse and worklessness.
To date the Stanley Community Fund has made grants of £190,000 to local groups offering sport for young people, support for those in need and opportunities for local residents. PACT House, Stanley Starz, Stanley Kicks and Just for Women are just some of the beneficiaries.

The Fund was launched two years ago by County Durham Community Foundation, the Office of The Durham Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner, Stanley Town Council, Kevan Jones and Stanley Area Action Partnership.
The Stanley Community Fund has supported Just for Women Centre contributing towards the cost of our new garden room. This additional space will allow Just for Women to meet the increased demand for our support services. Check back late in May for the reveal!
Linda Kirk, Founder and Director of Just for Women said: “Thank you very much to County Durham Community Foundation and The Stanley Fund for contributing towards the costs of our new Garden room. This new space will allow us to provide our vital services to more women. Throughout lockdown we have remained open and continued to support our community, but we have also learnt lessons from this new way of working. The women have really benefitted from the smaller groups and this room will allow us to continue to provide support in smaller groups, even when restrictions have lifted”.

Margaret Vaughan, Chief Operating Officer for by County Durham Community Foundation said: “Throughout lockdown, groups in Stanley have soldiered on – looking after the community and tackling issues head on. With long-term funding, and buy-in from the whole town, Stanley has so much to build on and be proud of”.
